Kentucky’s state Capitol building was one of seven state capitols that received bomb threats on Wednesday, spurring evacuations.

At approximately 7:45 Wednesday morning, Deputy Secretary of State Jennifer Scutchfield received an email that said bombs had been placed in the Capitol building.

The email stated: “I placed multiple explosives inside of your State Capitol. The explosives are well hidden inside and they will go off in a few hours. I will make sure you all end up dead.”

The building was evacuated on the order of Kentucky State Police and a search conducted, with no threat found. The all clear was given by officials around noon.

“While everyone is safe, KSP has asked everyone to evacuate the state Capitol and is investigating a threat received by the Secretary of State’s Office. We are aware of similar threats made to other offices across the country,” Gov. Andy Beshear wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

State capitols in Georgia, Mississippi, Connecticut, Michigan, Montana, and Utah received similar threats, according to multiple media reports.

The threat in Kentucky is being investigated by the Lexington FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
