The Leitchfield Police Department has released a statement regarding online misinformation posted about a formerly missing female.

“… Saturday evening at approximately 11 PM officers became aware of a potential missing female based on information gathered by patrol and Facebook posts. This information was used to determine that a missing person’s report would be necessary,” LPD Det. Sgt. Ian Renfrow said.

Renfrow added that police have “been actively investigating to locate the female,” and she was found safe at approximately 4:00 Sunday afternoon.

“The information shared about police having someone in custody and searching her phone was false information” that was spread by inaccurate information posted online, Renfrow stated. “We appreciate all of the public’s assistance as always,” … but the case “was not what it was made out to be at all” in online postings.

Renfrow thank Grayson County Dispatch and Grayson County Emergency Management for their assistance in this matter.
