An Elizabethtown woman is dead and an Elizabethtown man is in jail on a murder charge.
Elizabethtown Police Department spokesman Chris Denham told The News-Enterprise that 34-year-old Chris A. Bell Jr. has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 37-year-old Kenyeta McWilliams.
The shooting occurred Wednesday evening at approximately 8:40 on Henon Lane, a densely residential area in the heart of Elizabethtown. Upon officers arriving at the residence, they found McWilliams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures on the victim, according to the Elizabethtown newspaper, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bell was quickly identified as a suspect, as McWilliams had taken out an emergency protective order (EPO) against him.
The investigation determined, based on surveillance video and witnesses, that Bell arrived at McWilliams’ home and was allowed inside the residence. Bell was then apparently asked to leave. While he was on the porch, McWilliams shut the front door. Bell then opened fire, striking the victim multiple times through the door.
Bell was arrested a few hours later and charged with murder and violating an EPO. He is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.
