A Barren County man has been sentenced for illegally possessing a firearm after previously being convicted of felonies.

Dwayne T. Smith, 37, of Glasgow, was sentenced in federal court to four years and nine months in prison, Michael A. Bennett, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, announced on Tuesday.

According to court documents, Smith illegally possessed a Glock GMBH, model 19 nine-millimeter semiautomatic pistol on June 7, 2022.

Smith, according to prosecutors, was prohibited from possessing a firearm because he had previously been convicted of the following felony offenses:

  • On June 25, 2019, in Barren Circuit Court, Smith was convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property, and possession of synthetic drugs.
  • On October 7, 2019, in Barren Circuit Court, Smith was convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

There is no parole in the federal system.

This case was investigated by the ATF with assistance from Kentucky State Police and the Glasgow Police Department.
