A Hart County man who killed his wife has been sentenced.

William G. Burden, 55, of Upton, was found guilty in Hart County of killing his wife, 27-year-old Erica Burden, in October. He was sentenced earlier this week to life in prison.

Erica Burden’s body was found in a sink hole in Upton on November 11, 2021, two days after she went missing following dropping her daughter off at school in Bonnieville. A firearm, cellphone, and the victims’ purse were found underneath Erica Burden’s body.

“Suspected blood evidence” was discovered at Erica Burden’s home and inside her vehicle, which was found at Bonnieville Elementary School, state police said. Authorities also said that before disappearing, the victim was seen with William Burden on November 9 at around 8:00 a.m. near the Bonnieville Dollar General Store.

Kentucky State Police searched William Burden’s residence and found additional blood evidence and “other items connected to Erica Burden.”
