Kentucky State Police is investigating after an inmate died at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville.
State police said that at approximately 4:10 Friday afternoon prison staff began performing CPR on an inmate, 31-year-old Ivan Orantes-Pierce, of Louisville, and requested medical services.
EMS responded to the scene and at 4:31 p.m. summoned the Lyon County Coroner’s Office. At that time, troopers also responded and opened a death investigation.
Currently, police said, foul play is not suspected.
An autopsy was performed on Saturday, as investigators await the preliminary results.
The investigation is ongoing.
