Be on the lookout and lock your car doors.

Over a 24-hour period in Leitchfield, there were at least two unsuccessful attempts to steal items from vehicles and one successful theft from an unlocked vehicle.

Early Tuesday morning in the 200 block of Sunbeam Road, someone stole a firearm from an unlocked vehicle an attempted to make entry into another vehicle. The theft occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Leitchfield Police Department Officer Bart Glenn responded to the Sunbeam Road theft.

During the early morning hours of the previous day, a doorbell camera caught what appears to be a male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans enter and rummage through a vehicle in the Wallace Avenue area of Leitchfield. A video of the incident was posted to social media.

It’s unclear from the video if the suspect took something out of the vehicle.

Thefts from unlocked vehicles are a problem year-round, but the incident rate of such occurrences skyrocket during the holiday season. Police recommend removing valuables from vehicles and of course, always lock car doors.
