In a random drawing on Tuesday, the Grayson County Clerk’s Office was one of 12 clerk’s offices in Kentucky chosen to undergo an audit of the 2023 General Election.
The drawing was conducted by Deputy Kentucky Attorney General Victor Maddox. He drew out of a miniature bourbon barrel, containing slips of paper with the names of all 120 counties, the 12 counties to be audited.
In addition to Grayson County, clerk’s offices in Hancock, Meade, Webster, Oldham, Mercer, Fayette, Greenup, Johnson, Fleming, Martin, and Perry counties will undergo election audits.
The audit process will be led by the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Commission, said DCI Commissioner Greg Wolf.
“We look at all their records, all the information the clerks normally compile for an election,” Wolf said. “We get all their records, then we interview people involved in the process. We interview local county officials. It’s just basically a checks and balances system. (We’re looking for) anything that came up that might not be on their reports.”
The audit results are then presented to a grand jury in each of the 12 counties.
