Another person has been arrested in the murder of a missing eastern Kentucky toddler, whose body has been found.
As K105 reported Friday morning, Brittany Slaughter, 23, of Williamsburg, and her niece, four-year-old Chloe Darnel, who Slaughter had custody of, disappeared in September, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office. Slaughter was found Thursday night sometime before 9:00, but without Darnel. The sheriff’s office said Slaughter was found “locally.”
Slaughter was booked into the Whitley County Detention Center at 4:10 Friday morning and charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
On Friday, the sheriff’s office said Darnel’s body “has been recovered.” Where the body was found was not released. The toddler’s body has been transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Also on Friday, the sheriff’s office said 34-year-old Adam Hayes, of Williamsburg, was arrested and charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in relation to Darnel’s murder. He was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (heroin) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The investigation is ongoing and could result in additional charges, the sheriff’s office said.
