Grayson County High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of American (FCCLA) chapter is sending five of its members to national competition.
In first-time competition, the FCCLA LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl Team of Michenna Meredith (captain), Tara Wells, Cierra Clark, Gabe Secora, and Laslen Hatfield advanced to the Top 16 in open pool play. They will compete in the finals at the National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington, in June 2024.
“Each student is an FCS content expert, and all must have a broad base of FCCLA knowledge,” school district officials said. “They competed before the conference in individual rounds and interviews to reach the Top 40 and came into the conference in the Top 24.”
Two students placed in individual competitive events that included honors plus significant scholarships:
- Hollie Hagan came in first place in the Nutrition Challenge and was awarded a $15,000 scholarship
- Donavon Heady came in second place in Education and Training Challenge and was awarded an $8,000 scholarship
In addition, Jaida Logsdon, Chloe Shartzer, Peyton Pharis, Jada Basham, and Sydney Lindsey all ranked nationally in their respective competitions, with final scoring to come, the school district said.
