A man shot and killed by Somerset police was pointing a gun at officers prior to being shot, Kentucky State Police said.

The incident occurred on Friday night, October 27, at a residence on Emerald Court. Somerset officers were interviewing 51-year-old Dallas Brandon Cain, of Somerset, regarding a domestic disturbance. During the interview, Cain left the residence with a firearm, state police said.

When police confronted Cain and ordered him to drop the weapon, he refused and pointed the gun at officers, according to state police. Officers then opened fire, killing Cain.

A Somerset officer suffering from a non-life threatening injury was treated at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Kentucky State Police said the Somerset PD personnel on the scene included Sgt. Stephen Langdon, 49, Officer Chandler Gover, 26, Officer Taylor Cundiff, 29, Officer Theodore Wax, 25, and Officer Jacob Loudermilk, 22.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team conducted the investigation.
