In a spirited battle for the governor’s seat, Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear edged Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

Beshear, whose father also served two terms as Kentucky governor, beat the Hardin County native by 5.01 percentage points in an election that saw a 38 percent turnout (1,325,108 votes cast vs. 3,484,827 eligible voters).

Beshear ended election day with 693,370 (52.55 percent) votes to Cameron’s 626,196 (47.54 percent). In the 2019 gubernatorial race, the Louisville native defeated then-Gov. Matt Bevin by just over 5,000 votes (709,846 to 704,760).

In Grayson County, Cameron received 4,454 votes to Beshear’s 2,514. Beshear, though, recorded between 900 and 1,000 more votes than any other Democrat in the down ballot races.

In Hardin County, Cameron bested Beshear by fewer than 200 votes, as Cameron received 14,511 votes to Beshear’s 14,336.
