A teenager in Bullitt County has been jailed after stabbing a police officer in the face with a screwdriver.
The assault occurred when Mt. Washington Police Officer Mark Bramer was unlocking the gates to the city park at 6:15 Saturday morning and encountered 18-year-old Kenzie VanArsdale inside the park, according to the Mt. Washington PD.
The officer asked to see the suspect’s identification when the teenager fled on foot. She ran down two streets before VanArsdale stopped and put her hands in the air, police said.
As Bramer was cuffing the suspect, she spun around and stabbed the officer just above his eye with a screwdriver.
Bramer, who was able to detain the suspect after being stabbed, was transported to University of Louisville Health – Medical Center South. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.
VanArsdale was lodged in the Bullitt County Detention Center where she’s been charged with attempted murder of a police officer. She is being held on a half-million-dollar bond.
Police believe VanArsdale may have been involved in “other criminal acts” in Mt. Washington earlier Saturday morning.
