The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has completed a traffic mobility study intended to support the BlueOval SK Battery Park while also preserving the unique character of historic Glendale.
The study was composed of four alternatives, according to KYTC spokesman Chris Jessie said.
“One of the four would be a new bypass northeast of Glendale. It is identified in the study as Concept A and has emerged as the study’s highest priority,” according to Jessie. “It would route traffic to and from Blue Oval/SK along Kentucky Routes 222 (Glendale-Hodgenville Road) and 1136 (New Glendale Road) without having to go into the town, where the two routes intersect.”
The study, Jessie said, “recommends that the cabinet begin preliminary design of Concept A.”
“A second alternative, Concept C in the study, would include construction of a new interchange with I-65 at KY 1136. The study recommends that the cabinet also begin preliminary design and environmental work for Concept C, should an interchange later be needed,” Jessie stated.
Two other alternatives, Concepts B and D, were not recommended.
Concept B, a northwest Glendale bypass, was met with substantial public opposition largely related to the potential for residential relocations, according to Jessie.
Concept D would entail a new interchange with the Western Kentucky Parkway at Hwy 222.
