An eastern Kentucky deputy sheriff has been arrested after hitting a utility pole with his police cruiser.

The Menifee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Montgomery County Deputy Bryan Beane, 35, of Denniston, early Saturday morning on a DUI charge when Beane struck a utility pole on Hwy 460 just east of Means.

Upon police arriving at the scene, deputies noticed the smell of alcohol coming from Beane, who was described as lethargic and unsteady on his feet, according to news outlets. Beane told deputies he had been drinking vodka, which was found in his patrol vehicle.

The suspect was given a field sobriety test and arrested and transported to St. Joseph Mt. Sterling hospital where he refused a blood test. A search warrant was obtained for his blood.

Beane was lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail. He has since been released.

The Menifee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the wreck.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an administrative investigation into the incident, with Sheriff David Charles telling WKYT.com that Beane has been suspended.
