A welfare check in Pulaski County led to the discovery of a deceased female and a large amount of narcotics.

On Sunday, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded to Shoreline Drive to conduct a welfare check on a female, according to Sheriff Bobby Jones.

Upon arriving at the home, a deputy “spoke to family members” of the woman who arrived at the residence and stated they had not spoken to the female in over 18 hours.

A male subject could be heard inside of the residence, police said, but he refused to answer the door. The deputy then spoke to the male, Johnny L. Bullock, 76, of Mount Vernon, through a window.

Bullock told the deputy the female was breathing but unresponsive.

Additional deputies then arrived on scene and forced entry into the residence. Once inside, deputies “located Bullock laying on the bed on top of the female,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office arrived and pronounced the woman deceased at the scene.

In plain view on the bed, deputies located methamphetamine, marijuana, glass smoking pipes, and digital scales. Police found under the bed “a large bag containing suspected methamphetamine,” according to the sheriff’s office. The methamphetamine was later found to weigh just over two pounds.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division was summoned to the scene and a search warrant obtained for the residence. Upon execution of the warrant, deputies located 50.9 grams of heroin, Oxycodone and Gabapentin.

A search of Bullock revealed he was in possession of $3,500.

He was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine, heroin, drug unspecified), possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The death investigation is ongoing.
