UK issues Crime Bulletin following sexual assault at two locations, including residence hall

The University of Kentucky has issued a Crime Bulletin for the UK campus in Lexington.

The UK Police Department issued the alert after a sexual assault took place at a residence hall on campus as well as an off-campus residence.

The Crime Bulletin reads as follows:

On Monday, October 9, 2023, the UK Police Department received a report of a sexual assault on UK’s campus. The incident is reported to have occurred on the dates of Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at the suspect’s off-campus residence and again at the victim’s residence hall. Both the victim and suspect are UK students, and the suspect is known to the victim. UK Police is actively investigating this matter and the appropriate campus units are working with individuals involved to provide resources and support.      

Sexual assault is defined as rape, fondling, incest or statutory rape, according to UK’s most recent Campus Safety and Security Report.

Data on reported sexual assaults on campus over the last three years revealed:

  • 2022: 34 rapes; 26 reports of improper fondling; no instances of incest or statutory rape
  • 2021: 34 rapes; 21 reports of improper fondling; no instances of incest or statutory rape
  • 2020: 15 rapes; 10 reports of improper fondling; no instances of incest or statutory rape
