In what the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office describes as an “historic drug bust,” three people were arrested and a record amount of fentanyl was taken off the street.

Harlan County Sheriff Chris Brewer said a coordinated investigation that took several weeks, and involved the sheriff’s office, Appalachia Narcotics Task Force and the DEA, resulted in the seizure of 470 grams of fentanyl (16 ounces), over 650 grams of methamphetamine (23 ounces), several thousand dollars, and a firearm.

“This turned out to be the biggest fentanyl seizure in Harlan County history,” Brewer said.

On Tuesday, search warrants associated with the investigation were served and resulted in the arrest of 57-year-old Leslie Brock and 21-year-old Therisha S. Westfelt, both of Lynch, and 22-year-old Aaron J. Robinson, of Cumberland.

The three suspects were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl), with Brock being charged with three counts of fentanyl trafficking.

Robinson was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (heroin), fleeing or evading police (on foot) and trafficking in marijuana.

Westfelt was also charged with possession of marijuana.

All three suspects were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

Assisting the investigating agencies in serving the arrest warrants were Kentucky State Police and the Cumberland and Lynch Police Departments.
