Two central Kentucky schools were placed on lockdown on Wednesday after threats of violence were made.

Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:00, the Stanford Police Department and multiple first responders were dispatched to Lincoln County High School after a phone threat alleged a student was at the school with a firearm with the intention of causing harm, according to the school district. A second threat claimed a bomb was inside the school as well.

The school resource officer and staff immediately locked down the school. Lincoln County Middle School, which shares a campus with the high school, was also locked down.

The high school was evacuated and multiple law enforcement agencies, including a University of Kentucky Police Department K-9 unit and Kentucky State Police, conducted a sweep of the school and found no weapons or explosives.

The high school and campus were deemed safe for re-entry at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Multiple agencies continue to investigate, and the campus will have an enhanced police presence for the remainder of the week.
