A Hardin County man has been charged with kidnapping and domestic violence assault following a vehicular accident.

Kentucky State Police arrested 29-year-old Stefan O. Cottrell, of Upton, after he wrecked a pickup truck in Sonora and the woman with him accused Cottrell of abducting her, beating her and slamming her face into the truck’s radio, according to The News-Enterprise.

The incident occurred on September 16 when Cottrell wrecked his Chevrolet truck in a yard on Dixie Highway. Cottrell and the victim left the scene and were later picked up by Cottrell’s friend.

When troopers arrived, The News-Enterprise reports they found several alcoholic beverages, a “large amount of brown hair,” a handgun, an empty purse, and a cellphone inside the truck.

The victim displayed a bruised face that was covered in blood. She told police that Cottrell, after wrecking the truck, dragged her from the vehicle. The victim informed troopers that she repeatedly asked Cottrell to let her go, both before and after the wreck.

Cottrell was arrested at his home and charged with kidnapping with serious physical injuries, second-degree assault (domestic violence), obstructing governmental operations, DUI, and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
