Oldham Co. boy killed by vehicle fleeing police

A fifth-grade student in Oldham County has died after a vehicle being pursued by Kentucky State Police crashed into an SUV.

The wreck occurred Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:30 when a trooper, for unknown reasons, attempted to stop a vehicle on I-71 south in Oldham County. The vehicle fled, with police soon learning the vehicle had been reported stolen, according to media reports.

The fleeing vehicle, being driven by 23-year-old Tymetrius D. Walter, of Louisville, exited I-71 at exit 14 (Crestwood) onto Hwy 329 and crashed into a northbound GMC SUV containing Jake Luxemburger, a fifth-grade student at Kenwood Station Elementary. He was killed in the crash.

Jake’s grandmother was seriously injured but is expected to survive.

Police arrested Walter and charged him with murder, first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, receiving stolen property, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), and reckless driving along with several other traffic offenses. He was lodged in the Oldham County Detention Center.
