A juvenile has been taken into custody in Ohio County after a “possible threat” was made toward a school.

During the early-morning hours of Friday, and “well before the school day started,” the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office “was alerted to a possible threat towards an unknown school in our area,” Ohio County Sheriff Adam Wright said.

The sheriff’s office contacted the Ohio County School Board, and with its assistance “it was determined that the threat came from a juvenile within the school system,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Police made contact with the juvenile, who was taken into custody.

“The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office takes these threats very seriously and wants to commend and give special thanks to the Ohio County School Board and our deputies for their swift action regarding this incident,” Wright said.

The investigation is ongoing.
