Multiple agencies and businesses came together to build a playhouse for a critically ill Hardin County girl.
Last week, Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana reached out to Jones Home Center in Elizabethtown with a special request from the family of 10-year-old Dixie Robertson to build the sick child’s dream playhouse, according to Jones Home Center.
Dixie’s illness began about 10 months ago when a lump in her leg was discovered to be a rare form of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma, according to this article by WHAS11.com. Dixie underwent surgery to remove the tumor in March, but in July doctors discovered a tumor in her brain.
She immediately underwent surgery to remove the brain tumor, but earlier this month doctors discovered another tumor in Dixie’s brain as well as in her lungs.
With a two-week turnaround request on Dixie’s dream project, and with assistance from the Will Harris Homes family, the Campbellsville University Bass Fishing Team and Central Hardin High School student Chloe Frye, who co-ops at Jones Home Center, the Make-A-Wish project was completed in record time.
“We are so proud of how these teams and our community came together to give Dixie and her family a special place to make happy memories,” Jones Home Center said in a social media post.
“Jones Home Center is an absolutely phenomenal partner of our school district,” Hardin County Schools said. “Their stewardship to our schools and our community is exceptional.”
