A LaRue County man is accused of beating his 22-day-old baby, while the mother of the child did nothing to stop the abuse.

Kentucky State Police arrested 24-year-old La’Carl S. Washington and 22-year-old Chasity M. Allen and charged each with first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12). Both suspects were lodged in the LaRue County Jail on $50,000 cash bonds. Allen is no longer listed as an inmate.

The couple recently took their infant to Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, but due to the seriousness of the injuries, the baby was transported Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, according to a report by WDRB.com.

The baby suffered from a lacerated liver, broken leg, bruising, and was bleeding from the mouth.

Washington, the Louisville television station reports, admitted to “several actions that injured the baby, including holding the child by both legs with one hand while changing his diaper, resulting in the leg fracture.”

Washing also is accused of slapping the baby while he was burping his infant, possibly causing the liver laceration. He also held the baby’s pacifier in place by wrapping a cloth around the infant’s mouth, causing the pacifier to bruise the newborn.

Allen is accused of being aware of the abuse but not taking any action to stop it.
