The 2023 Ducking Hunger Regatta was a smashing success, as the event that benefits the Grayson County Alliance (GCA) Food Pantry raised over $13,000 to support food insecure Grayson County residents.
The event, held Monday evening at the Leitchfield Aquatic Center and broadcast live by K105 Digital Productions, produced a first in the history of the fundraiser.
“For the first time ever, we sold all 2,000 ducks, representing 80,000 meals to the food pantry. Each duck has a purpose,” a clearly elated GCA Executive Director Debbie Childress exclaimed to the crowd. “We are racing against hunger. Our community is so blessed to have the food pantry, and we at the food pantry are blessed to have community support.”
In total, the event raised an incredible $13,200 for the food pantry, according to Childress. The winner of this year’s Ducking Hunger Regatta was Paisley Patterson, who won $1,000.
GCA serves over 700 Grayson County families per month, while also providing many other services including tax and backpack programs, senior vouchers and various educational classes.
GCA is located at 2203 Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield. The phone number is 270-259-4000.
