Kentucky State Police has released its findings from an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Bowling Green.
The shooting, which occurred at approximately 5:00 the afternoon of July 6, 2023, was investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team.
State police said the preliminary investigation revealed that Bowling Green Police Department Officer Matt Davis and a department-approved ride-along were responding to a disturbance at Car-Mart of Bowling Green at 1930 Russellville Road.
While Davis was investigating the incident, the suspect, Esteban Lowery, produced a handgun from his waistband and pointed the weapon at Davis. Davis attempted to deflect the weapon and create distance between himself and the suspect, but Lowery fired multiple rounds, striking and incapacitating Davis, police said.
When additional officers arrived on the scene, they found Lowery unresponsive. First responders performed life-saving measures on Lowery before he was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green where he was pronounced deceased.
Davis was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.
In its press release on the investigation, state police did not reveal who shot Lowery.
According to the News Democrat Leader, Davis is from Adairville in Logan County.
