A gas leak in the heart of Leitchfield on Tuesday spurred action by multiple first responders as well as Leitchfield Utilities.

Initially, the Leitchfield Police Department, at approximately 9:20 Tuesday night, responded to the 300 block of West White Oak Street after residents in the area called Grayson County Dispatch and said there was a smell of natural gas in the area.

Upon Leitchfield PD Sgt. DJ Newton and Officers Chuck Hoover, Tamara Jupin and Ty Whitaker arriving in the area they also detected the smell of natural gas, resulting in the Leitchfield Fire Department and Leitchfield Utilities employees responding to the scene.

It was determined that the gas leak was coming from an underground valve at the intersection of West White Oak Street and South Broadway Street.

Leitchfield Utilities workers fixed the valve and cleared the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Grayson County EMS staged in the area as a precautionary measure.
