One of the two jail escapees who walked away from work release since Thursday has been captured.
Kentucky State Police said 34-year-old James L. Cotton was captured Tuesday morning at approximately 6:00. Police did not say where Cotton was caught.
Cotton walked away from work release near Hardyville on Monday. He has been re-lodged in the Hart County Jail and charged with second-degree escape.
He is serving time after being convicted in Warren County in 2020 for third-degree burglary, first-degree bail jumping, trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and first-degree criminal mischief, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
Police continue to search for 41-year-old Charles A. Woodward, of Madisonville.
Woodward, on Thursday, “escaped custody from a work release program” at Madisonville Tire and Retreading at 48 Federal Street in Madisonville, state police said.
He was last seen Thursday afternoon at approximately 3:00. He was wearing a gray Madisonville Tire and Retreading uniform, gray pants and a white undershirt.
Woodward, whose arrest history is lengthy, was serving time at the Hopkins County Detention Center after being convicted of two counts of burglary and three counts of theft by unlawful take, police said.
He stands six feet, one inch tall and weighs approximately 145 pounds. He has brown eyes, brown hair and multiple tattoos on both arms.
