Four Leitchfield Police Officers have received the department’s LifeSaving Award.
For their actions in June of this year, Sgt. Robert Jackson, Sgt. DJ Newton, and Officers Chuck Hoover and Missy Skaggs received the awards last week from Police Chief David Riley.
“Law enforcement officers respond to thousands of calls for service each year, never knowing exactly what they will be faced with when they arrive,” Leitchfield PD Det. Sgt. Ian Renfrow said. “When the situation presents itself, rapid assessment and effective action is a must.”
Responding to an apparent opioid overdose, the officers quickly assessed the deadly situation and acted swiftly.
“Officers quickly administered Narcan to the unresponsive subject and each officer became involved in continuous CPR administration,” Renfrow stated. “Without the action of these officers, the outcome would have likely resulted in the loss of life … The Leitchfield Police Department proudly acknowledges their actions and praises them for their service to our community.”
