A Leitchfield man accused of committing multiple burglaries and thefts over the last month in Grayson and Breckinridge counties has been captured near Hardinsburg.
Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said deputies have responded to no less than 10 burglaries, thefts and destruction of private property calls between July 14 and August 12.
“This crime spree (attributed to Corbin) also included a felony stolen vehicle pursuit with the Leitchfield Police Department. The thefts included, but are not limited to, stolen vehicles, 4-wheelers, UTVs, guns, and identity theft,” Chaffins stated.
Recently, while in Breckinridge County, the suspect, 23-year-old Tyler Wayne Corbin, fled police by running into a wooded area with a rifle. During that incident, police spotted Corbin with a law enforcement drone but were unable to immediately capture the suspect.
Soon after, the Hardinsburg Police Department received a complaint of an attempted theft. A male subject was later spotted by Breckinridge County Sheriff Billy Richardson walking near where the attempted theft took place.
Corbin fled from Richardson on foot, but he was caught by the sheriff and placed under arrest.
The suspect was lodged in the Breckinridge County Jail where he is currently charged with receiving stolen property (firearm), fleeing or evading police (on foot) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He faces additional charges in Grayson County for burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He could face more charges in Breckinridge County, as well.
“Corbin is a known drug addict and had already committed multiple crimes due to his addiction,” Chaffins said.
As K105 previously reported, the suspect was placed into a diversion program after being convicted of theft by unlawful taking (firearm), a crime committed in June 2020, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Corbin, though, has not followed the conditions of the diversion program and dismissed warnings from judges before walking away from rehab and beginning his recent crime spree, Chaffins said.
Corbin was placed Grayson County’s Most Wanted list in October 2022. He was wanted for two counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle, on foot), felony wanton endangerment and driving on a DUI suspended license. He surrendered at the Leitchfield Police Department on December 15, 2022, and faced additional charges of theft by unlawful taking (firearm), fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, and careless driving.
“Based on information received from family members of the suspect, methods of operation by Corbin and number of weapons stolen during his spree, we were not optimistic about him turning himself in peacefully,” Chaffins said. “However, we are thankful that no one was physically injured or killed during his criminal acts. Hopefully, the courts will see that this criminal has ignored their warnings and conditions and has shown that he has no intention of complying with them in the future.”
