A western Kentucky couple has been jailed after being accused of assaulting their baby.

Kentucky State Police said on Monday that troopers received a complaint “regarding a six-month-old infant who sustained injuries consistent with child abuse and assault.”

The infant was in the emergency room at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville at the time the complaint was made. The baby, though, was subsequently airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

The investigation determined the infant was in the care of her biological parents, Mykill D. Puckett, 23, and Holly J. Jones, 21, both of Providence, in the days leading up to the complaint.

On Thursday, both suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree assault and first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12). They were lodged in the Webster County Jail on $100,000 cash bonds.

The charges are class B felonies, punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by Kentucky State Police.
