Laurel County Sheriff John Root said deputies and other law enforcement agencies responded Tuesday afternoon at approximately 12:50 to the report of a boy being shot at a residence about three miles south of London. The victim, identified by Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling as 12-year-old Malachi H. Moses, of Corbin, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
“Investigators report that apparently a weapon discharged in the bedroom of a residence … striking a 12-year-old Laurel County boy in the stomach,” Root said.
An autopsy was conducted at the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort on Wednesday.
Malachi was a student at South Laurel Middle School.
