A WKU student has been murdered and her killer remains free.
The Bowling Green Police Department said officers responded to the Muse Bowling Green apartment complex at 1799 Russellville Road Sunday evening at 10:09 on the report of an “assault in progress.”
Upon arriving at the scene, police located 21-year-old Ayanna Morgan suffering from two gunshot wounds as she lie on the ground in the back of the complex. She was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green before being airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Morgan died early Monday morning, police said.
“We believe the victim was involved in a brief struggle prior to being shot,” Bowling Green police said.
On the Bowling Green PD Facebook page, Misha-el Baskerville, who said she is the victim’s mother, wrote:
Please! If anyone knows of anything. Report it to the police at once. This is my beloved daughter! My firstborn! She was winning at life! Set to graduate next year. She didn’t deserve this! My heart is shattered!
She should still be here.
Help me catch the person’s that did this to my baby!
WKU released the following statement on Morgan’s death:
This morning, we lost a valuable member of the WKU family. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family, loved ones and friends. The death of any student in our community is painful and distressing. In the wake of this tragedy, we encourage individuals in need of counseling to contact our Counseling Center at (270) 745-3159.”
