Lightning struck a 30,000-gallon propane storage tank in Glasgow on Thursday.

The Glasgow Fire Department (GFD) was called to the 100 block of South Honeysuckle Lane around 2:00 p.m., according to a report by WBKO.

Fire officials evacuated the surrounding area out of an abundance of caution.

The investigation found that a relief valve malfunctioned which freed the gas to escape into the air. A lightning strike then ignited the escaping gas, the station reported.

While the leak has not been fixed as of early Friday morning, the GFD says that there is no current danger to the area.
