Former Kentucky State Senator from Breckinridge County who also represented Grayson dies at 82

Former Kentucky State Senator Joseph “Joe” Wright has died at the age of 82.

Wright was elected to the Senate in 1975 before rising to the position of Majority Leader in 1981. He would serve 17 years total in Frankfort.

During that period, he represented Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, Hart, Meade, and Ohio Counties.

In 1996, he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives losing in the general election to Ron Lewis.

Additionally, he also was a marine and a member of the Breckinridge County School Board.

Wright is survived by his wife Barbara and four children.
