Kentucky State Police has arrested a northern Kentucky couple for pilfering a large amount of money from a volunteer fire department.

Troopers arrested Larry Burden, 58, and his wife, Angela Burden, 57, both of Robertson County, on Tuesday after the couple was indicted for stealing more than $100,000 from the Robertson County Fire Department.

The couple worked at the fire department, with state police explaining that they had “key roles” in the department.

According to WXIX.com in Cincinnati, Larry Burden was fire chief at the department from 2003 until 2018. His wife was the fire department’s treasurer for approximately 10 years until her termination in February 2023.

Larry Burden is currently listed as the Robertson County Road Supervisor and Solid Waste Coordinator.

They were both charged with abuse of public trust (more than $100,000) and theft by unlawful taking (over $10,000, less than $1 million). The couple was lodged in the Bourbon County Detention Center on $114,000 cash bonds.

The investigation is ongoing.

Robertson County is the least sparsely populated county in Kentucky with an estimated population of just over 2,200 in 2022.
