A six-year-old girl has been shot in a road rage incident in Louisville.

The shooting occurred Monday night at approximately 8:20 at the I-65 off-ramp at University Boulevard.

The incident began on I-65 north near the Outer Loop exit when three motorcyclists and an unknown number of people in a vehicle containing the girl got into an altercation. Multiple shots were fired between the motorcycles and passenger vehicle.

The moving altercation again resulted in gunfire at the University Boulevard off ramp, with the girl shot in the back. The vehicle the girl was in was struck several times.

The driver of the vehicle, who is also the injured girl’s father, rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital where the victim underwent emergency surgery. She was listed in critical but stable condition Tuesday afternoon.

Police said at least three firearms were involved in the incident.

Lt. Steve Lacefield, commander of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Non-Fatal Shooting Squad, declined to tell WDRB.com whether anyone has been arrested. But, he did say the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office has been notified and that he expects the case to be resolved soon.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact the Louisville Metro Police Department’s anonymous Crime Tip Line at 502-574-5673. Tips may also be submitted to the department’s Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
