A man has been arrested in Morgantown after firing multiple shots near an apartment complex.
Saturday morning at approximately 2:00, a Morgantown officer was on patrol when the officer heard several gunshots near Oak Hill Apartments at 155 Oak Hill Drive.
“The officer arrived on scene and observed a white Jeep Cherokee fleeing the scene,” Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor said. “The MPD officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed.”
The pursuit, with assistance from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, came to an end in the 8000 block of Russellville Road, Taylor said, where officers arrested 21-year-old Eric D. Amburgey.
During a search, police found a handgun, marijuana and on open container of alcohol.
The investigation showed that Amburgey fired “at least 12 rounds into the air” at the apartment complex, police said.
Amburgey was charged with felony wanton endangerment, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, speeding (26 mph or more over the limit), and possession of marijuana.
He was lodged in the Butler County Jail but is no longer listed as an inmate.
