A wanted Leitchfield man once one of Grayson County’s Most Wanted has been jailed on multiple warrants along with new drug charges.

Friday morning at approximately 4:30, Leitchfield Police Officer Eugene Cain conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Ford Explorer on the William Thomason Byway. Upon Cain and LPD Sgt. DJ Newton and Officer Taylor Wright making contact with the occupants, police observed 20-year-old Gavin Petty in the back seat of the vehicle.

Petty, court documents indicate, had warrants for his arrest on the following charges: possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), fleeing or evading police (on foot), giving an officer false identifying information, and possession of drug paraphernalia along with traffic-related counts.

Additionally, Petty failed to report back to jail after leaving inpatient rehab before completing the program, according to court documents.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found a Gatorade bottle lid fashioned into a methamphetamine pipe as well as another bottle containing “white crystal substance residue along with blue Gatorade liquid in the bottom of the bottle making a bong,” according to the arrest citation.

Petty, police said, admitted that the paraphernalia was his and that he had smoked methamphetamine out of the bong.

The suspect was arrested on the warrants and is facing new charges, including possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Petty was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

In February 2022, Petty was listed as one of Grayson County’s Most Wanted suspects.

In May 2022, he was located and arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office after being found living out of a vehicle in a wooded area off Old Hartford Road.
