An eastern Kentucky man has been jailed after trying to kill a woman and her unborn baby.
Late Saturday night, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence complaint on Old Cross Road, just outside of Pineville.
Upon arriving at the scene, the pregnant victim told police 55-year-old Donald Shaver Jr., of Middlesboro, placed his hands around her throat and pushed her out of a chair. When the victim landed on the floor Shaver is accused of strangling the woman, according to a report by WYMT.com
When the victim broke free from Shaver, he then allegedly swung an ax at the woman’s stomach.
Shaver was arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted fetal homicide, second-degree assault, felony strangulation, and public intoxication.
He was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.
