Kentucky State Police is leading a death investigation after a female shot and killed a man on Mt. Zion Road, about 10 mile southeast of Clarkson.

Grayson County Deputies Justin Cockerel and Tim Jackson, the East Grayson Fire Department and EMS responded at approximately 11:15 Friday night to the shooting at a residence in the 1200 block of Mt. Zion Road after a female notified Grayson County Dispatch that she had twice shot a man.

She told dispatch she shot the man in the leg and chest.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that the 48-year-old male was deceased. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Grayson County Coroner James Embry early Saturday morning.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office then requested Kentucky State Police respond to the scene.

KSP’s preliminary investigation, led by Det. Joey Beasley, showed that the 45-year-old female shot the male multiple times after he “forcibly entered a bedroom occupied by the resident …,” according to KSP Post 4 Public Affairs Officer Scotty Sharp.

Further investigation revealed that the male and female were at one time in a relationship which had a history of domestic violence, Sharp added, emphasizing this was not a random home invasion. The case will be presented to a Grayson County Grand Jury.

The body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy.

The female was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for “observation of previous health issues,” Sharp said.

Assisting at the scene were Grayson County Sgt. Jordan Jones, along with multiple troopers.

The release of the male’s identity is pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing.
