A Kentucky State Police trooper from Muhlenberg County has graduated from the FBI National Academy.
Kentucky State Police Post 2 Lt. Jon McGehee, of Bremen, 13-year KSP veteran, graduated from the exclusive law enforcement training academy last week in Quantico, Virginia.
“Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend,” Kentucky State Police said. “On average, these officers have 21-years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.”
KSP Post 2 Commander Derek Smith said he was proud of McGehee’s graduation, as only one percent of the nation’s law enforcement officers are nominated to attend the FBI National Academy.
“The training that Lieutenant McGehee received is valuable to all of us,” Smith said. “I am proud of his efforts, dedication, and the challenges he overcame. I look forward to seeing how his experience betters his career.”
McGehee was grateful for the opportunity to attend and graduate from the class.
“It was an honor to represent the Kentucky State Police during the National Academy Session 286,” McGehee said. “I am grateful to have shared this experience with some of the greatest law enforcement leaders from around the world.”
McGehee has served in several assignments with KSP, including trooper, squad sergeant, investigations sergeant, and operations lieutenant. He has twice received the Governor’s Award for DUI Enforcement and has been nominated for Post 2 Trooper of the Year.
A native of Muhlenberg County, McGehee graduated from Muhlenberg North High School in 2004. He earned a Master of Justice Administration degree from University of the Cumberlands.
About the FBI National Academy
FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields.
Since 1972, National Academy students have earned undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits many of the courses offered.
A total of 54,366 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it opened in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
