A suspect was arrested on drug and DUI charges after “swerving through and hitting construction traffic cones” on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Saturday morning at approximately 1:40, Leitchfield Officers Taylor Wright and Brian Jennings, along with Grayson County Deputy Tim Jackson, were alerted by Central Dispatch that a vehicle was driving recklessly on the westbound parkway around the 114-mile marker, just east of Clarkson.

Law enforcement observed the vehicle, a 2018 Ford Fiesta, traveling 20 miles per hour below the speed limit at the 108-mile marker of the parkway, according to the arrest citation.

Wright initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, 40-year-old Jonathan M. Watts, of Greenville. Watts was unable to provide officers with a driver’s license, proof of insurance or registration. Furthermore, he told police he was driving on a suspended license and that he is “supposed to have an interlock device” on the vehicle, the citation states.

Watts additionally gave indications he was on an unknown narcotic.

Police asked for and received permission to search the vehicle and discovered four uncapped syringes and a glass container “containing a liquid residue at the bottom of the jar …”

He was given a field sobriety test and arrested and transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center where the suspect refused a blood draw.

He was charged with his second DUI (controlled substance), possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a DUI suspended license (his second such offense) along with several non-moving violations. The suspect was also served with two warrants out of Muhlenberg County.

Watts was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
