An Elizabethtown man is facing attempted murder of a police officer and other charges following a four-hour standoff in Hardin County.

Friday night at approximately 9:00, Hardin County deputies responded to the 100 block of Sissy Court on the report of a man with a rifle. Upon police arriving near the scene, the suspect, 51-year-old Jonathan L. Harville, began firing “several shots” toward a deputy, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

Harville is also accused of shooting at someone in a vehicle as well as shooting at a vehicle a deputy and resident were using as cover.

Deputies then deployed a drone, which enabled police to track Harville’s movements, but the suspect shot the drone down.

The Elizabethtown Police Department’s Special Response Team was summoned to the scene and sent tear gas into the home, forcing Harville out of the residence. He was then taken into custody.

The suspect’s wife hid in the couple’s basement during the standoff. Police were in constant contact with the woman during the incident, Hardin County Sheriff John Ward told the newspaper.

Multiple nearby residences were evacuated during the standoff.

Harville was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center where he’s been charged with attempted murder of a police officer, attempted murder, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree criminal mischief, and fourth-degree assault.

Ward said Harville is facing a federal charge for shooting down a drone. According to Title 18 U.S. Code 32, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison if found guilty of shooting the drone.

The suspect is being held on two bonds totaling $150,000.

Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene.

Sissy Court is in a neighborhood just off the Western Kentucky Parkway, about a half-mile southwest of Love’s Travel Stop.
