A former deputy jailer in Bell County has been accused of raping an inmate.
Joshua A. Berry, 34, was arrested in Tennessee and extradited to Kentucky on Friday and lodged in the Clay County Detention Center where he’s been charged with the August 2016 rape of a female inmate.
Berry’s arrest came after a Kentucky State Police investigation.
Berry, whose duties as a deputy jailer included transporting inmates to and from the Bell County Courthouse, is accused of raping the woman in an elevator at the Bell County Detention Center. Kentucky State Police said DNA evidence indicates that Berry was involved in the rape.
