A tractor-trailer crashed Saturday morning on the Western Kentucky Parkway just west of Caneyville.
Saturday morning at approximately 5:00, Grayson County Deputy Andy Cast, the Caneyville Fire Department and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet responded to the accident near the 91-mile marker of the eastbound parkway.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that a westbound Federal Express semi left the roadway and missed a bridge pile (concrete support) by only a few feet before striking a guardrail and entering the median.
The truck then crossed both eastbound lanes and hit another guardrail before coming to rest between the guardrail and an embankment.
The driver, who told police he must have briefly fallen asleep (commonly referred to as micro-sleep), was not injured.
The semi traveled about 100 yards after leaving the westbound lanes.
The semi was contracted by FedEx and is owned by J.R. McBride, Inc. out of Carbondale, Illinois.
