The 2023 Primary Election is Tuesday, here’s what you need to know.

With no local races, the Kentucky gubernatorial, secretary of state, commission of agriculture, state treasurer, and auditor of public accounts races dominate the ballot.

The Republican race for the right to take on the presumed Democratic Party winner, Gov. Andy Beshear — although he faces challenges from two hopefuls — includes 12 candidates; one who resides in Grayson County.

At the top of the GOP gubernatorial ballot sits Grayson County resident Jacob Clark, followed by Kentucky Army National Guard member David O. Cooper, former U.N. Ambassador Kelly Craft, suspended attorney Eric Deters, McCreary County School Board member Bob DeVore, state Auditor Mike Harmon, Somerset Mayor Alan Keck, Dennis Ray Ormerod, Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles, Johnny Ray Rice, Robbie C. Smith, and Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

Challenging Gov. Andy Beshear are Peppy Martin, the GOP nominee for governor in 1999, and perennial candidate, Geoffrey M. “Geoff” Young.

Republican Allison Ball, twice elected state Treasurer, is running for Auditor of Public Accounts against Derek Petteys.

GOP incumbent Secretary of State Michael Adams is being challenged Stephen L. Knipper and Allen Miracle.

Running for state Treasurer are Republican hopefuls Mark H. Metcalf, O.C. “OJ” Oleka and Andrew Cooperrrider.

Vying to become Kentucky’s next Commissioner of Agriculture on the GOP slate are Jonathan Shell and Richard Heath. Mikael Malone and Sierra J. Enlow will battle to represent Democrats in the ag commissioner race in November.
