An elderly woman was injured after leaving South Main Street (Hwy 185) in Caneyville and striking a utility pole.
Wednesday afternoon at approximately 5:20, Grayson County Deputies Justin Cockerel and Wally Ritter, the Caneyville Fire Department and EMS responded to the crash in the 400 block of South Main Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that a Kia Rio, being driven by 80-year-old Maria Burd, of Bullitt County, had been traveling north when, after Burd suffered a possible medical emergency, left the roadway.
The Kia climbed a large embankment where it struck a utility pole (snapping it in half), causing the vehicle to flip onto its top as it came to rest in the northbound lane.
The vehicle traveled about 290 feet after leaving the road.
Burd was extricated from the vehicle by Caneyville firefighters, although no equipment was used. She was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
Caneyville firefighters and deputies remained on scene well after the vehicle was removed to ensure tractor-trailers did not become hung up in the low-hanging utility lines.
