Leitchfield Parks and Recreation Director Tammee Saltsman announced at Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting that the Little League Challenger Program designed for specials needs individuals will begin this summer.
The league, for ages four to 22, is for those with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. The season, which Saltsman said would take place in July, will consist of two practices and four games lasting one or two innings. The goal is for each game to last one hour.
Each participant is required by Little League Baseball to be accompanied by a Field Buddy, who helps the participants while the players bat, run the bases and field and throw the ball, etc. Field buddies are required to be at least 13-years-old and those 18 or over must undergo a background check.
T & T Construction, owned by Tommy and Tina Higdon, is sponsoring the league, resulting in no entry fees for participants, Saltsman said.
Sign up for the league at Leitchfield City Hall until May 31. For questions, contact Leitchfield Parks and Recreation at 270-259-4034.
Beautification Awards
The city, as deserved, presents Beautification Awards to anyone who has made significant progress improving, upgrading or rehabbing blighted properties inside the Leitchfield city limits.
On Monday night, Dana Stewart and Kevin Pharis were presented a Beautification Award for the work they have completed at 206 Mill Street, home to Welcome Home Realty Group. Stewart accepted the award for the couple, as Pharis was out of town.
Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Walker, was also given a Beautification Award for the work he has done improving his storefront at 113 West Main Street.
“We do appreciate those who have taken the initiative” to make improvement on their properties, Mayor Harold Miller said.
