A Hardin County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for robbing a Big Clifty bank along with three other bank robberies.

A federal grand jury in Bowling Green indicted 36-year-old Ramon Alvarez, of Radcliff, for robbing the Wilson & Muir Bank at 9790 Elizabethtown Road on July 2, 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky. Prosecutors said $5,000 was taken in the armed holdup.

He was also indicted for robbing WesBanco Bank in Meade County of $8,292 on May 22, 2018; Hancock Bank & Trust in Hancock County on June 7, 2018, where he stole $9,407; and Casey County Bank in Liberty on June 25, 2018, stealing $5,400.

In the Big Clifty robbery, Alvarez and another suspect entered the bank just before noon armed with a handgun and demanding money. The suspects then left the bank and fled in a blue passenger car traveling north toward Hardin Springs Road.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Clarkson Police Department and Kentucky State Police responded to the scene.

Alvarez was taken into federal custody on Monday, prosecutors said, and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on Tuesday. He faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.
